Engineering High Reliability ( Sustainable, Resilient ) Organizations

Thank you Dr Mecit Can Emre Simsekler from Management Science And Engineering at Khalifa University for inviting me as a Guest Lecturer on course
"AI in Health Systems ,Business and Society" to your PhD Students
The title of my talk was
➡️Engineering High-Reliability Healthcare Organizations
Problem Statement:
1. Healthcare is expensive: UAE is going to spend 127 Billion AED by 2027 which is a 7% growth rate - report by EY and Dubai Science Park
download report: ➡ https://lnkd.in/d3rh3pSe
2. Is mostly "Sickcare": focussed on looking after the ill
3. Delivered by expat and migratory workforce in #UAE
4. Hyperdynamic ecosystem with frequent leadership changes
5. Current clinical workflows were designed in the '70s and '80s
6. Rising healthcare demand with increased expectations( people want to live longer- even the less well-off), rise in lifestyle diseases, and aging population
7. There is a huge demand for healthcare professionals and educators in the #globalsouth
8. Medical training has not changed since the time of Osler
9. Rapid progression in technology but adoption remains very low
10. Governments all over the world are unable to afford/deliver/ or retreating from healthcare delivery and private sectors are bridging the gap
So, the talk was geared toward how "digital by design" healthcare systems can not only help develop resilient and sustainable #healthcare but create #highreliablity organizations
➡️In addition, this will allow deployment of Point of Care #ai solutions, integrating clinical decision support tools to help the nonexpert and the first responders.
➡️Help create structured datasets that will help us glean insights that will allow us to develop bespoke solutions to address the population needs and
➡️Help reduce the cost of delivering care
Shared our experiences doing just that at Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City - SSMC and Abu Dhabi Health Services Company- SEHA - شركة أبوظبي للخدمات الصحية - صحة over the last 6 years
I use these lecturers to pitch to bright folks like the students at Khalifa University to come and work with me to solve these #global issues
We need to attract the best and the brightest from #engineering and #management school to join us in #healthcareindustry to help advance #healthcaredelivery and #healthcareoperations. This problem can no longer be solved by us doctors alone
Looking forward to meeting like-minded folks from Industry, Academia, and regulators to collaborate on any project that helps improve bedside clinical care, healthcare outcomes, and the healthcare ecosystem.
